VALIDITY PERIOD OF ‘UAE FREE ZONE’ VISAS SHORTENED TO 2 YEARS

VALIDITY PERIOD OF ‘UAE FREE ZONE’ VISAS SHORTENED TO 2 YEARS

New UAE visa rules come with a new validity period! The UAE authorities have decreased the validity period of residency visas for Free Zones in the country. Earlier it was 3 years which is now decreased to 2 years. This change came into effect on 3rd October 2022.

With the new rules coming into effect, the validity period of work visas in both mainland and free zones has become equal, that is 2 years. The new rules will apply to new employment visa applications whether initiated within or outside the country. Free Zones authorities have updated their clients about the changes in the visa validity period, and the same is confirmed by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP).

Free zones are special zones marked distinctively in all seven Emirates, they have special tax systems, customs and import regimes. These Free Zones offer 100% foreign ownership and no income tax.It is also reported that the visa fee received for the third year has already been returned to the applicants.

One of the emails from Umm Al Quwain Free Trade Zone read: “The above will be applicable for all new as well as renewals of the Visas for both investors and employees.”

It is to be noted that the old validity period will apply to residents if their visas have already been issued by the relevant authority. However, if your visa application is still ‘under process’, new visa rules will govern your visa application. The validity period of the Emirate Identity Card will also be changed and made equivalent to the duration of the residence permit.
